Oh, I think I understand what you're going for! In English, a similar misunderstanding might be something like:
"I want to be close with you." (here meaning close as in close relationship, not close distance-wise)
"HU-UH?" (the panel of confusion that you have)
"Well... not romantically."
And then insert the main character's thoughts panel..
"Wait.. Maybe romantically afterall..."
"!!"
Something like that would infer that he wanted to clarify that he didn't want to be boyfriends but then changed his mind at the end of the page by saying "maybe i do want to be boyfriends" or something like that. Does that make sense? I'm sorry if that's not what you were going for at all OTL
